Fast Fives Rd 1- Bilgola- Saturday 11 October
The SLSSNB Fast 5’s carnival series commenced on Saturday 11 October, with Round 1 at Bilgola Beach.
Six U14’s competitors, Piper, Flo, Sophie, Harrison, Jayden & Lenny, made the journey North to Bilgola for a great morning of racing. The surf & weather conditions were perfect for their first carnival racing on U14’s boards, with some strong competition against a combined U14 & U15 age group. Despite tough competition, there were some very consistent performances from all competitors, with numerous top placings.
A special thank you must also go to Paris Giannakis who fulfilled the official role to allow our Freshwater nippers to compete.
We look forward to seeing the full Board Ski Swim squad in action at the Rd 2 of the Fast 5’s carnival series at North Steyne on Saturday 1 November.
Wanda Carnival- Saturday 25 October
Saturday 25th October saw a group of U12’s, U14’s and U15’s competitors make the journey south to Wanda for the 2025 Tradies Wanda One Club Carnival.
The Wanda carnival had 1400+ competitors entered across all surf sports events and the weather and surf provided a great carnival atmosphere and some high-quality racing.
The Wanda Carnival also served as the selection carnival for the SLS SNB Interbranch Team, and we wish our prospective interbranch athletes all the best with the upcoming announcement of the interbranch team.
Freshwater had significant success on the sand, with very strong results in the individual & teams beach events. We also had some great racing in the water, and thank our U14’s for racing up in U15’s in some great team’s races.
In the words of Piper, one of our U14’s competitors,
“ My favourite part about the carnival was going into the land relays with my friends because it made me realise with a good attitude you can succeed, and we ended up winning because we didn’t expect it we just tried our hardest and that’s all you can do”

Bennett Fast Fives Series North Steyne / North Steyne Beach Stormers (1st Nov)
Our Opens and Development Board Ski Swim (BSS) Squad headed to North Steyne over the weekend for an action packed day of racing.
This format delivered back to back races with Opens competitors being put through their paces with 5 x Ski and Board races and our Development Squad taking on 5 x Swim and Board Races. We even wrapped up before 11am!
Despite some challenging conditions we had some great results across the board with multiple wins and podium finishes. Most importantly it was very pleasing to see great participation across the event with 3 Freshwater tents up and almost 15 competitors racing from U14s all the way up to Opens.
A special shoutout to Darcy Herd (U14s) who proudly represented the Beach team, competing in the Beach Stormers Series on the same day.
A massive thanks to Paris Giannakis and Kev Crow for officiating and thanks to our dedicated coaches Tom Duffy and James Coates (who also helped in the IRB!) for heading down to support us.
Thanks to North Steyne SLSC for hosting us and we’re excited for the next Fast Fives event at Whale Beach!
