Freshwater SLSC Surf Boat Update!

Australian Championships

Well, what an unforgettable 2026 Aussies for Freshwater Boats!

It was a history-making event for the club, with our Reserve Grade Women claiming the Australian title and, in the very next race, our Reserve Grade Men matching the feat in spectacular fashion. Not to be outdone, the ever-reliable 260 Men’s Crew had already set the tone earlier in the week, securing gold three days prior—bringing home an incredible three gold medals overall. In testing surf conditions, these outstanding results were a true testament to the crews’ skill, determination, and exceptional teamwork.

SLSNSW Championships

Was a roller coaster of a weekend at the 2026 NSW Surf Boat champs.

The Spring Chickens (260yrs Men) came away on Friday with a gold medal 🥇 congrats lads! The lightning and poor weather meant the Reserves had to come back Saturday.

The Pigs (Reserve Men) and The Freaks (Reserve Women) both made it through to the finals on Sunday, where The Pigs came away with a bronze and The Freaks a silver! 🥈🥉

Well done to all crews who had awesome results. Gave Nath all the medal colours! Onto the next at Aussies 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Australian Surf Rowers League and Interstate Championships

We had three of the Freshwater crews racing this weekend at Wanda for ASRL Champs.

The Freshwater Pen 15’s (Reserve Men) came down to support the girls while they raced as the NSW Team in the morning on Friday, and after a tough three rounds of racing that afternoon, unfortunately did not make it through to Sunday. Bad luck boys, rooting for you at State later this month!

The Freshwater Pigs (Reserve Men) were also there in the morning to support the Freaks, and had an awesome afternoon of rowing, making it through to the Sunday eliminations. Unfortunately, the cuts on Sunday morning were brutal, and the boys just missed out on the quarter final. They stuck around for the rest of the day supporting the Freaks, legends boys!

The Freshwater Freaks (Reserve Women) had another awesome weekend of racing. The girls spent Friday morning having the honour of wearing the NSW Blues uniform. They raced once against the other Reserve Women State Teams, and came 2nd! Well done ladies! They’re contributions in the Senior and All Age relay, alongside their 2nd place individually, led to NSW retaining their Australian Gold Medal in the Interstate Championships! This is the Freaks second Australian Gold Medal of the season (and ever!). They raced all day Sunday and got all the way to the finals, but unfortunately just missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place. Outstanding effort ladies!

The Freshwater Boat Section will be back for State Champs down at Swansea Belmont from the 28th Feb to 1st March. Best of luck guys!

Branch Surf Boat Carnival: Interstate Team Selection

The Freshwater Pen 15’s (Reserve Men) were back in action, and put in an awesome effort to get through to the finals and come away with a 2nd place 🥈 ! Well done boys!

The Freshwater Pigs (Reserve Men) also made the final, and were in great contention for a medal with a super tight finish, coming away with a 4th overall. Great effort!

The Freshwater Freaks (Reserve Women) had another awesome day at Queensie. After their NSW Team dinner on the Friday night (where they received their NSW uniforms!!), they were itching to keep their winning streak. It was a small group for the Reserve Women with only 6 teams, so the girls needed to get the best of only 3 rows. They certainly did that, winning all 3 races, and ending the day as the new Sydney Northern Beaches Reserve Women Representative team for 2026!! Huge congrats girls!!

The Freaks will be racing as the NSW Team at the Australian Surf Rowers League Championships on Friday 13/02 in the morning, and the rest of the Freshwater Surf Boat crews will be on Friday afternoon, with everyone back for finals on Sunday! Good luck everyone!

Collaroy Surf Boat Carnival: NSW Team Selection

We had three of the Freshwater crews racing this weekend at Collaroy.
The Freshwater Pen 15’s (Reserve Men) made their debut, and put in an awesome effort to get through the eliminations and make the quarter final. Well done boys!

The Freshwater Pigs (Reserve Men) were in a unique position coming into the carnival, as
they were the only team to make both finals at North Cronulla and North Steyne. After their first 2 races, unfortunately the boys had to pull out due to a back injury. However, they still only just missed out on being the NSW team despite not making the final (that’s how close the Reserve Men division is this year!!). The Pigs are still in the running for the SNB team, so best of luck at Branch!!

The Freshwater Freaks (Reserve Women) had a cracker of a day to say the least. After being sidelined at North Steyne, they only had their 2nd place at North Cronulla to work with for NSW team points. Batemans Bay were the ones to beat, and after the heats the girls weren’t convinced they could do it. A few pep talks from Nath and an awesome semi final later, and the girls came into the final knowing they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. And what do you know, they finished their day at Collaroy as the new NSW Reserve
Women Representative team for 2026!!💙💙Huge congrats girls!!

The Freshwater Surf Boats group will be back at SNB Branch at Queenscliff on the 07/02, hopefully with U19 boys (Freshwater Worms) ready to go. Wish us luck!!

Australian Short Course Titles

Some pleasing results in the boat area today with the girls winning the Reserve Grade Title and the boys placing third after winning all the way.
Also a Second place in the mixed team novelty event.

North Steyne Surf Boat Carnival, and the build up to Collaroy

Only one of the Freshwater crews survived the racing this weekend at North Steyne.  The Freshwater Freaks (Reserve Women) were ready to go in all their merch, but unfortunately the big surf and afternoon heatwave meant the Reserve Women’s division was cancelled! At least the girls will be well rested for the final State Selection Event on the 24th at Collaroy.

The Freshwater Pigs (Reserve Men) took on the massive sets, doing an awesome job to make it around the cans without any rolls or injuries. After their first 2 races, the boys thought they had missed out on the semi final. We had packed the boat up, sat ourselves down in the North Steyne Surf Club, and just finished our first beer… when suddenly Tristan looked at the draw and they were through!

Luckily the Freaks were still around to help as pit crew and get the boat down on the beach in record time for the Pigs to be on the start line in time for their race. The commentators gave the boys a shout out for their beer drinking pre-race, and it served them as a good luck charm – the Pigs were the only boat in their semi to make it around the course (all other crews had a DNF!) – meaning they made the final!

Their beer luck continued, as they came away with a 3rd place overall. This puts them in a great position to win their spot as the NSW Reserve Men’s Representative team. The Freaks finished 2nd at North Cronulla in December, so both teams are strong contenders!  Wish the Freshwater Surf Boats group luck in their endeavours at Collaroy, come back winners guys!
