Freshwater SLSC Youth Hub

Welcome to your Freshie Community

The Freshwater SLSC Youth Hub is your space to get involved, build skills, meet new people, and make the most of your time at Freshie. Whether you’re keen on surf sports, socials, volunteering, or just want somewhere to study and hang out, this is where you’ll find everything you need.

Youth members are a big part of what makes Freshie special — and this hub is here to help you find your place.

Surf Sports

If you love being active or want to build confidence in your surf skills, Freshie’s Surf Sports program has heaps of opportunities. With supportive coaches and an enthusiastic youth squad, you can improve your fitness, learn new skills, and even come along to carnivals if that interests you.

Freshwater SLSC offers fun, inclusive training sessions available 5 days per week for all skill levels where youth members can learn to paddle a racing mal, surf ski, or even gain confidence swimming in the ocean. Whether you’re just keen to get involved and enjoy the surf, or you’re chasing competition goals at local, branch, state or national carnivals – join us!

No board or ski required.

Interested in putting your lifesaving skills to the test? Freshwater offers several pathways into lifesaving competition, including First Aid Competition, Patrol Competition, and Champion Lifesaver.

These events are a great way to build confidence, improve your practical knowledge, and challenge yourself in a supportive team environment. Freshwater has a strong history of success in lifesaving competition, and youth members of all skill levels are encouraged to get involved — no prior experience required.

If you’re looking for something fast-paced, physical, and seriously fun, surf boat rowing might be for you. Freshie’s surf boat crews train hard, work together, and take on the surf in one of the most exciting team sports on the beach.

Whether you’re completely new to rowing or have previous experience, you’ll be supported by experienced sweeps and teammates. No experience is needed — just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go.

Rescue & Resuscitation (R&R) is a traditional and highly respected surf life saving event that showcases teamwork, timing, discipline and rescue skill. In R&R, you and your team work together to perform a simulated surf rescue and resuscitation using traditional belt, reel and patient rescue techniques.

Freshwater offers team options of 2, 5, or 6 competitors, making it easy to find a group that suits you. This is a great event for anyone who enjoys structured training, teamwork and performing under pressure.

March Past is one of surf lifesaving’s oldest and most iconic team events. Teams march in formation carrying surf reel equipment, demonstrating precision, coordination and pride in club colours. It’s a fantastic event for building discipline, teamwork and club spirit — and a great way to be involved in competition without needing any surf skills. March Past is open to all ages and abilities, and new members are always welcome.

Education

Getting involved in patrols by gaining your Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) is the first way you can get involved as a surf lifesaver.

But it doesn’t stop there! There are many other awards you can get involved in beyond your SRC including those in powercraft, emergency care, first aid and leadership categories.

See the education page Click Here for further details.

Reach out to Kelly Dobrow (Director of Education) at education@freshwaterslsc.com for course details.
